Here's a very short
description of what we're doing in computer class just now. I
update this monthly, so check back often!
May / June
 We will start the month of May by creating a spreadsheet using the weather data they have recorded. They will also be doing a web quest on weather. And, of course, we now spend a little time practicing keyboarding in every class.
April
In April, I introduce the students to keyboarding. They will continue their keyboarding practice through sixth grade. They are currently playing JumpStart Typing and doing a great job of learning the home row keys. They will be also be tracking the weather for 4 weeks.
March
The Iditarod starts on March 6th, and each child will be tracking a musher. In addition, they will be writing a story using Imagination Express while learning about ocean life.
February
They have been an outstanding class this year, and will celebrate Catholic schools week with "free choice" of any games that they have learned this year! Later in the month we will begin our unit on the Iditarod. They have just finished Stone Fox and will be having an enrichment on sled dogs next month.
January
Language Arts is the theme for 2nd and 3rd graders this month. Third graders will write a letter to another third grade classroom in a school somewhere in the U.S. as part of the Great Mail Race. They are learning about the different parts of a letter and how to address an envelope correctly.
December
Last month they researched some key facts about a state. This month they will be using Microsoft Word to type in their state information in "trading card" format. They also played the math games from Calculating Crew.
November
Third
graders will be creating Trading Cards on the 50 states (each child will be creating 2 cards). Later in the year they will be participating in the Great Mail Race, and will be sending the trading card of NH to another school in the U.S.
October
Third
graders started the month with Thinkin' Things, software designed to
help with critical thinking skills. They will also have a lesson on
Internet Safety, using Disney's Surfwell Island games to reinforce the
lesson. When finished, they will also play the Fun with McGruff
online safety games.
September
They
started the year by
creating a book about Fall in Kid Pix. This was a great
introduction to learning how to save and open files. Each day when
they were finished with their day's assignment, they switched to
JumpStart Phonics.
